Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has offered Rotimi Amaechi, David Nweze Umahi, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba and Ogbonnaya Onu as possible options to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari after 2023 general election.
The apex pan Igbo socio-cultural organisation in a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, who commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) northern governors for throwing their weights behind southern presidency.
Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro further noted that the gesture of Mr. President and the APC northern governors has strengthened the conviction of Nigerians to accept the APC consensus candidate as a Nigerian project, adding that Buhari would be remembered like Great Zik of Africa, Obafemi Awolowo, and Abubarkar Tafawa Belewa.
It reads: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has extolled the positions of President Buhari and APC Northern Governors on lending their consent for the Southern presidency, which is the height of nationalism and patriotism in full swing for the unification of Nigeria.
“It has as well as strengthened the conviction of Nigerians to accept the APC consensus candidate as a Nigerian Project. Buhari and APC Northern governors have shown that right decision on southern presidency. It has also assuaged, soothed the nerves and responded to the anxieties and skepticism of the south and renewed the confidence of Nigerians”.
“Mr.President should surprise the world with a choice that will cement the cracks on the walls of the country’s unity. This is a decisive moment, for President Buhari to decorate himself in a place of dignity and admiration in the history of Nigeria by constraining his search for a successor among the Igbo APC aspirants to unify the country.
“Chibuike Amaechi, David Umahi, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, and Ogbonnaya Onu are wonderful choices at the discretion of the President to leave a lasting legacy that will uplift him as a national statesman in the same ranks of Great Zik of Africa, Obafemi Awolowo, and Abubarkar Tafawa Belewa’.
“The expectations of Nigerians and what is before Mr. President is the choice of an Igbo with national acceptance, with the capacity to diminish the rising rebellion of the secessionist movement in Eastern Nigeria, and an insider who will hit the ground running from the first day in office as President by 2023, not a learner.
” We are expecting that Mr. President will write his name in gold with the choice of Igbo from the seven Igbo speaking States including the Ikwerre in Rivers State, this is the masterstroke for APC to retain Power in 2023″, it stated.
