DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: FEBRUARY 6 EXTREME DESPERATION IN LIFE (1) Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4: 8 – 9; Matthew 6: 25 – 26

Every human being has the tendency of desiring who to be and what to have. This talks of position or rank and needs for living. Most often, desire turns to despair which has a meaning of complete loss of hope.

It is not an over exaggeration to conclude that all mankind goes about with despair when what is hoped for is readily unavailable. The fear to losinh hope of what one wanted makes many grow from despair into desperation, which is recklessness arising from despair. Looking into events of life in this world today reveals people full of despairs. This is because there are troubles every side; many are distressed and perplexed with too much worrying.

In our lead passage of this devotional, Apostle Paul noted how Christians of his days have trouble every side, perplexed, persecuted and cast down. He nevertheless, told them not to be distressed, despaired and feel destroyed. Our Lord Jesus Christ warned against worrying too much about tomorrow in the second passage of the devotional.

People who respond to despair and too much worrying are candidates of extreme desperation. This devotional series aim at showing readers how dangerous, living in extreme desperation is to individuals, the States as well as the world at large.

The years within the 21st Century have been witnessing outward show of extreme desperation in people than other past Centuries. So many people have become extremely desperate for personal needs, wealth and riches as well as political, social and religious positions. Extreme desperation is seen in children and adults. Everybody seems to be pursuing wealth, riches, fame, affluence etc., recklessly daring ugly consequences. We are in a world abashed with the spirit of must have and must be.

But for Christians, we are told not to give in to despairs, worries and loss of hope. Christians are not permitted to be led by extreme desperation. This is because despair usually leads to unhealthy state of life. One writer simply referred to as Sophoeles said: “Despair often breeds disease.” The disease here is extreme desperation for all things.

PRAYERS:

1. Pray and ask God to reveal to you, the areas you are too worried about in life that could lead you into desperation in Jesus name.
2. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to give you the enablement to drop all worrying issues in life in the name of Jesus Christ.
